Project

Substantial Extension & Remodelling

Our client wanted to extend and remodel a modest 1960s three-bedroom bungalow set within substantial river fronted private garden, to create an inspiring four-bedroom property, designed as a lifetime home to accommodate the clients current and future needs.

A series of outbuildings on the site were also to be replaced with a detached garage, boathouse and pavilion.

Remodelling the bungalow on a sloping site enabled the bedrooms to be formed on a new lower ground floor which would extend out beneath the main terrace which was enclosed within a frameless glass balcony. The original conservatory was replaced, and the ground floor remodelled to create a spacious open format entertaining area, with snug and new kitchen. A modern smooth white render and light grey aluminium windows rounded off the modernisation and creating a contemporary feel to the property.

Potential concerns with excessive heat loss and summer overheating were considered at an earlier stage with our inhouse SAP/EPC assessors assisting in the design process, which incorporated projected eaves and glazed screens to the bedrooms recessed to create natural shading.

The garage and pavilion were designed as single storey low impact buildings, with timber cladding and a green roof above the pavilion.  The boathouse was open at ground level with a home office and study formed to the first floor, with views over the gardens and river.
